CAMPER WORLD - Forum

Camper for babies - 2007/03/20 14:26 I'm looking for some advice about using a camper with my children - 3yr old and a 9 month old. I want a camper to spend summer doing some touring with them. I don't particularly want us to go far I just want something that is safe, has a way of attaching baby seats (real seat belts rather than lap belts) and has room for 2 adults, a child and a small travel cot. I never realised that there were so many different interiors and I wonder if anyone has any experience of using a camper with kids of these ages and if so, what advice you'd have about what type to go for. I have about 10 grand to spend. Thanks.

Re:Camper for babies - 2007/04/10 18:05 Hey Lucie,

spent last summer going on trips with our (then) one year old son, in our Type25. He absolutely loved it, and just slept on the rock,n,roll bed with his mum, (I got relegated to the poptop!

We only have lap belts in the back, but this seemed to work fine with our baby seat.

There is an article in Volksworld magazine this month about fitting seatbelts to your camper which you may find of intrest.

We found the poptop is ideal if you have a child, as it might be a bit squashed with only one bed. You can also fit hammock style beds over the cab area in most t2 and t25 campers, (justkampers.co.uk sell them)
On our type25 we have an area above the cab in the poptop that I thought would make a good bed for a toddler, though I need to work out a way to fit a collabsible safety railing that can be hitched up so he won't fall out when hes in it.

I think that most people will agree that the Type25 has a bit more room in it than the Type2, but I guess it depends really on what conversion you go for.

Good luck, and just get out there and enjoy camping in a camper, (much better than tents, though we do have a drive away awning that is also very useful for more space!)

Sam
